KEEPING WATER CLEAN & SAFE IT IS EVERYONE'S JOB TO PROTECT WATER FROM UNNECESSARY POLLUTION
GENERAL WATER INFORMATION Our distribution system contains 549,583 lineal feet of water main. We have 5612 connections that
consume 846,918,000 million gallons of water per year. In 2005, the average pump age per day at our wells was 2.2 million gallons. The highest peak day was 7.4 million gallons. The source of water for the Onalaska system consists of four drilled groundwater municipal wells, each finished in the sand and gravel (glacial outwash) aquifers. Our five reservoirs store 3,275,000 gallons of water which aid in water pressure and fire protection. Chemical addition consists of chlorine, fluoride, and phosphate. Chlorine is provided for disinfection purposes, fluoride for the prevention of tooth decay, and phosphate for corrosion control. Each chemical is monitored everyday for safety and water quality.
GENERAL WASTEWATER INFORMATION The city of Onalaska does not have their own wastewater treatment plant. All of Onalaska's sewage is sent to the city of La Crosse for treatment. The Onalaska utility department takes care of all the cleaning of sewer mains and manholes in Onalaska. The utility department also does a daily check on all nine lift stations to make sure the pumps are working correctly.
